People know companies like Google and Facebook collect and sell users data, but most still think, "So what? I have nothing to hide." In this session we will discuss compelling reasons why your privacy is worth more than you think!
A "filter bubble" occurs when a student searches "the web", but only encounters information and/or opinions that conform to and reinforce their own beliefs. They are most commonly caused by algorithms that personalize an individual’s online experience (think cell phones) to the point that they can no longer access entire sections of the internet. This session will explain filter bubbles, and provide a forum for asking the question "How to deal with them in our classrooms?"
